To Yearn

To Yearn
without remorse, it begins
this deep dark churning
within my heart
let go, surely
but alas, ever so slightly
like kindling, ignited then blown upon
it gently rises

I am human, and this need grows
this wanting for more, for all of her
consumes me like a fiery flame
on a hot summer night

I wish I could make you understand,
how this feels, this passion
this burning inferno,
like the raging of a sea storm
and the brightness of a thousand stars

I wish I could make you see,
what this does to me, this need
this ultraviolet ray
cutting, like knives in a fistfight
burning, like shrouds under a clear sky

but I cannot
so, I shall use my words
to the stars I shall cry
with the sound of a thunderhead
I shall shout, with the voice of a thousand echoing drumbeats

I shall tell them
of this yearning within me
heavy, like the weight of a million dying stars
like the burden of a thousand lifetimes of regret
pushing one to the edge of insanity

and yet, a moment with her
silence
like that of a shelter or a moment under a bridge
of peace from the thunderstorm

I’d stretch this moment into infinity
just so I could see her smile
one more time
and know, without an iota of a doubt
that happiness is real

oh, to yearn
